Cisco–KAUST AI Institute Launches Research into AI Networks

Cisco KAUST AI Institute

The Cisco-KAUST AI Institute launched its first collaborative research portfolio. This launch moves the strategic partnership from planning to actual research. Cisco and the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology collaborated. They established this long-term partnership in October 2025. The institute advances artificial intelligence research and develops local talent. It builds the infrastructure needed to support future AI innovation.

Optimizing Data Centers and Network Assurance

The inaugural research portfolio spans several important technological areas. These projects will shape the future of AI infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. Researchers will explore how AI can improve large-scale data centers. They aim to optimize workload management and reduce energy consumption. Two specific projects focus entirely on AI-powered network assurance. These technologies monitor network traffic in real time to detect anomalies.

They also automate network management across complex communications infrastructure. This research supports secure digital networks for future smart cities. Another project will build a virtual replica of a modern network. This digital twin allows researchers to test changes safely. Operators can optimize performance in the virtual world before applying modifications. The institute also continues developing essential long-term research infrastructure.

Developing the Cisco AI POD Platform

Planning is currently underway for the advanced Cisco AI POD. This high-performance computing platform supports research and development activities. It provides vital inference capabilities for future technology projects. The strategic partnership includes significant financial investment in research and infrastructure.
