Abu Dhabi Opens Massive Seed Preservation Centre to Protect Native Ecosystems
The high-tech facility uses artificial intelligence to store eight tonnes of regional plant seeds
The Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi opened a groundbreaking Seed Preservation Centre today. This massive new facility sits proudly in the beautiful Al Dhafra Region. The center features four specialized cold storage rooms for vital plant preservation. These rooms can safely hold more than eight tonnes of seed. The advanced technology preserves these seeds perfectly for up to ten years. The facility includes high-tech laboratories fitted with modern artificial intelligence devices. These AI tools handle complex seed imaging and strict quality analysis. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan officially inaugurated the state-of-the-art facility today. The center dedicates itself to conserving and propagating Abu Dhabi's native plants. This crucial work heavily supports local biodiversity protection and habitat rehabilitation. The project translates the UAE's environmental vision into highly tangible scientific results. The center's automated nursery boasts an annual production capacity of 500,000 seedlings. Smart irrigation systems improve water efficiency by collecting and reusing surplus water. This facility complements the existing Plant Genetic Resources Centre located in Al Ain. Together, these centers handle everything from seed collection to natural habitat reintroduction. Abu Dhabi continues leading the region in sustainable environmental development.
