Medications and Border Customs

Saudi Arabia enforces some of the strictest border laws globally. Border agents quickly confiscate any alcohol, pork products, or illegal narcotics. You cannot bring in CBD products, even with a valid medical prescription. Prescription medications require careful planning before your trip begins.

You must obtain clearance for medications containing narcotics or psychotropics. This includes common ADHD medications, strong painkillers, and anti-anxiety drugs. Apply for your permit directly through the SFDA portal at cds.sfda.gov.sa. Submit your passport, medical report, and prescription three weeks before departure.

The government caps approved medications at a maximum 30-day supply. Always carry your printed permit and original prescription in your hand luggage.

Holy Cities: Restrictions for Makkah and Madinah

Religion strictly governs access to Islam's two holiest cities. Saudi authorities strictly ban non-Muslims from entering Makkah. Highway checkpoints actively enforce this rule outside the city limits. Authorities immediately deport and severely penalize anyone entering Makkah illegally.

Madinah offers a slightly more relaxed environment for international tourists. Non-Muslims can freely visit the outer residential and commercial areas of Madinah. However, you absolutely cannot enter the Prophet's Mosque or its immediate vicinity.
