Oman And Botswana Sign Major Economic Agreements
Sultan Haitham bin Tariq and Botswana President Doma Gideon Poku witnessed major agreement signings today. Officials finalized these strategic partnerships at Al-Baraka Palace in Muscat.
The new treaties cover mineral exploration, solar power development, and petroleum storage facilities.
Strengthening Economic Diplomacy
Oman Investment Authority Chairman Abdul Salam bin Mohammed Al Murshidi praised the rapid progress. He stated the deals strongly embody Omani economic diplomacy.
The two countries established formal relations quickly after initial meetings in July 2025. Al Murshidi noted these agreements open doors for local companies to export services globally.
Enhancing Fuel Security
Global energy group OQ signed a distinct pact with Botswana Oil. The partners will develop an integrated fuel supply and storage infrastructure.
OQ Group CEO Ashraf bin Hamad Al Maamari highlighted his company's comprehensive energy expertise. He wants to transform fuel security challenges into sustainable investment opportunities.
Botswana Oil Acting CEO Latelang Chakalisa called national fuel security a top priority. He hopes to leverage OQ's deep international experience.
Developing Renewable Energy
O-Green signed a crucial power purchase agreement with the Botswana Power Corporation. The companies will build a massive 500-megawatt solar power plant in Maun.
O-Green CEO Mustafa bin Mohammed Al Hinai said the project features integrated battery storage. This initiative represents a historic renewable energy investment for the African nation.
President Poku hopes this specific solar plant will transform Botswana into a major electricity exporter.
Expanding Mining Exploration
Oman Mining Development Company finalized terms with the Botswana Exploration Investment Company. The organizations will jointly explore and evaluate strategic mineral resources.
Officials ultimately plan to develop a highly productive commercial mine together. They will actively exchange valuable geological data and build advanced technical capabilities.
