Saudi Arabia And Senegal Lead A Global Call To Action On Water Security At The UN

A Saudi official highlighted the Kingdom's position as the world's largest producer of desalinated water.

Saudi Arabia is taking a leading role in addressing the global water scarcity crisis. Deputy Minister for International Multilateral Affairs Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Rassi participated in a high-level UN event. The event was titled "United for Water: A Call for Collective Action" and took place in New York. The Kingdom and the Republic of Senegal proudly co-chaired the important environmental gathering.

They organized the event in close cooperation with the newly established Global Water Organization (GWO). Head of the Founding Team of GWO Dr. Fahad Balghunaim also participated in the discussions. The event aimed to strengthen global water security and explore deeper international cooperation. It focused heavily on enhancing water security to support resilience and stability in vulnerable regions.

The panel wanted to transition from simple dialogue to scalable, practical solutions.

In his address, Al-Rassi emphasized that water is absolutely fundamental to international security. It is vital for economic development and maintaining global resilience against climate change. He noted that mounting global water challenges require much faster, coordinated international action. He called for stronger water governance and intensified regional cooperation amid rising global demand.

He proudly outlined the Kingdom’s massive achievements in the domestic water sector. Saudi Arabia has successfully become the world’s largest producer of desalinated water today. He highlighted that the ambitious National Water Strategy 2030 places water governance at its core. The strategy drives massive investments in technology, innovation, and sustainable water solutions.

The Kingdom is ready to share its desalination expertise with the rest of the world.

Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdulaziz Alwasil, attended the event. The Kingdom views water security as a critical pillar of global stability.
