Global Alliance Issues A Strong Statement On The Two-State Solution At The UN

Co-chairs convened a ministerial meeting to discuss the future of the Middle East.

The Co-Chairs of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution issued a formal statement today. They convened a Ministerial Meeting on the margins of the 81st Session of the UN General Assembly. This meeting marks exactly one year since the adoption of the New York Declaration. Close to 100 states and organizations took part in the high-level discussions.

The Palestinian Prime Minister and the Board of Peace High Representative for Gaza also attended. The statement reaffirmed that the two-State solution is the only internationally agreed path forward. They stated it is the only way to realize Palestinian self-determination and secure regional peace. The co-chairs noted that international consensus behind this solution is stronger than ever.

The statement expressed grave concern over developments undermining the solution on the ground.

The group specifically cited settlement expansion, demolitions, and unprecedented settler violence. They stated these actions are eroding the territorial integrity of the West Bank and East Jerusalem. The statement called for these measures to be halted and for accountability regarding settler violence. It also called for upholding the historic and legal status quo at the Holy Sites.

The alliance reaffirmed its vision of one Palestinian territory comprising Gaza and the West Bank. They firmly stated that the occupation must end to achieve a lasting peace. The document stressed that there can be no separate political future for Gaza. Transitional arrangements must lead to reunification under a single, legitimate Palestinian Government.

The statement also called for a consolidated ceasefire and rapid humanitarian assistance.

It expressed concern over the fiscal pressure on the Palestinian Authority and called for financial support. The message concluded by urging the international community to act now to preserve the two-State solution.
