Testing Naval Capabilities
North Korea recently tested strategic cruise and anti-ship missiles. The Korean Central News Agency announced these maritime tests today. These launches tested the operational efficiency of the destroyer Choi Hyon.
Leadership Observes Naval Drills
Leader Kim Jong Un personally oversaw the missile tests. Senior defense officials and naval commanders accompanied him during the event. Crews launched two strategic cruise missiles and three anti-ship missiles. The military aimed to test the ship's integrated weapons command system. Officials also wanted to train crews on standard launch procedures. Furthermore, they verified the accuracy of new anti-jamming navigation systems.
Flight Times and Future Plans
The strategic cruise missiles flew between 7,869 and 7,920 seconds. The anti-ship missiles flew between 1,960 and 1,973 seconds. All missiles successfully hit their designated targets over west coast waters. Later that day, commanders briefed Kim on upcoming naval projects. The nation plans to build two additional destroyers soon. North Korea prioritizes rapid response capabilities and strategic deterrence.
