Transforming National Water Security

The Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture announced a major transformation today. The Saudi water sector is achieving notable advances in national water security. Desalinated water production capacity increased significantly over the past decade. The country produced about nine million cubic meters daily in 2016. That number surpassed 16 million cubic meters per day in 2025. At the same time, reliance on non-renewable groundwater dropped sharply. Usage declined from 21 billion cubic meters to approximately 11 billion. This shift strengthens the sector's contribution to sustainable resource management.

Embracing Innovation And Research

Deputy Minister Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Malik discussed these important national achievements recently. He spoke during the seventh meeting of the Water Research Community. Scientific experts and key stakeholders attended the important development meeting. Dr. Al-Malik highlighted the complex global challenges facing the water sector. He stressed the need for much more efficient water resource use. The sector requires effective demand management and reduced water network losses. Expanding water reuse remains a top priority for the Saudi government. The Kingdom approaches these evolving needs with clear, strategic planning.

Developing The Innovation Zone

This approach shapes national priorities for research and sustainable water management. The government also launched the unique Water Innovation Zone initiative recently. This initiative serves as a vital platform for gathering specialized expertise. It brings talented professionals together to address pressing sector challenges directly. The zone facilitates the testing and validation of innovative water solutions. This accelerates the adoption of new technologies across the entire sector. Saudi Arabia continues to prioritize environmental protection and sustainable infrastructure development. These initiatives align perfectly with the ambitious goals of Vision 2030.
