Historic Jeddah Hosts Photography Exhibition at Red Sea Museum

Red Sea Museum

The Red Sea Museum in Historic Jeddah has unveiled an exhibition, Photographing Distance, by Argentinean artist Matilde Marín. The show debuted on Oct. 8, 2026 and runs through Dec. 31, the Saudi Press Agency said.

The exhibition represents the artist’s first show in Saudi Arabia and includes images and video installations of lighthouses from locations throughout the globe, including Jeddah and Yanbu.

The artworks consider the function of lighthouses in sea navigation, in human memory and in the relationship between people and places. They are inspired by the Pharus project that Marín started in 2005, and are presented as symbols of direction and optimism.

The opening featured a guided tour by the artist, discussion and musical performance. Public events supporting the show include film screenings, poetry evenings, photography workshops and family-friendly lighthouse model-making.

The commission said the exhibition is part of the Museums Commission’s efforts to enhance Saudi Arabia’s cultural scene and promote international artistic exchange.
