Most people picture Saudi Arabia as flat desert and blazing heat. Abha breaks that picture completely.

This city sits high in the Sarawat Mountains, about 2,200 to 2,270 meters above sea level. Cool air replaces the heat. Green hillsides replace sand. Thick fog often rolls through the valleys below.

Locals call it the Bride of the South. Some say the Bride of the Asir Mountains. Abha serves as the capital of Asir Province. It ranks among the Kingdom's favorite domestic escapes, especially during peak summer heat elsewhere.
